Choices in life

Everyone have their own choice and there is no absolute right or wrong with one choice. It always depend on how you see, justify and your own preference when choosing a choice. As we grew older, the choice we make would not only have an impact on ourselves but also on people around us - families, partner, friends and so on.....

I might look like a very smart boy on the outside but on the inside, I am always in a dilemma when it comes to choices. Yeah, I might sound arrogant, but I am always spoilt with choices during my entire life. People always tell me, it is always better to have many choice so that you can choose the best one. Bullshit I would say. That is a sign of greed, not choosing for your own good. Something good, does not mean that it should be 100% advantageous to you.

Now, I am in this dilemma again. Career choices. Multinational companies with lots of competent people working together and a very competitive career ? Medium-sized companies that is in a status quo but offers a good package, but require relocation + working in something entirely different from your qualifications ? Small-sized companies that is rapidly expanding but does not offer a bright career path ? Geez.

People always come around and tell me, "Alex, your first job is normally a stepping stone for a better job in the future. Most likely you wont stay there for more than 3-4 years". However, is this statement true for all ? Or for certain people that value material more than loyalty? Sorry, but I can say I am very much a loyal person but I demand for a good career path as well. For me, your first job ain't a stepping stone but an educational institution that serve to teach you on the principles and philosophy of working life. And I am pretty sure, if I were about to join a company as my first job, I would serve them for up to 7-10 years, before deciding that I should head somewhere else. Loyalty is what counts. We are not talking about contract position where by your job will expired after a certain period. We are talking about, company hiring you because they think you will be loyal to them, serving them and develop a bright career with them. Trust me, a CV with more than 5 different companies name will not sound as good as a CV with 2 companies name, with both CV having the same amount of working experience.

However, how you decide on these choices will be one important factor determining where you will be in 5 years time. This is where the headache comes in. I have yet to make a decision but most likely, I am more into an MNC whereby I will have plenty of opportunities to learn different kind of things. A medium size company with a good package can be considered as well, as I would be given a lot decision making opportunity and test my leadership ability. A small company would definitely give me even more decision making opportunity but with limited career development opportunity. Pros and cons.... Lol.

Maybe I shouldn't think too much on this beautiful Friday and the much anticipated Saturday. Let me do the thinking on Sunday. For now, I should concentrate on my remaining work and have a good night tonight ! After all, my schoolmates will be in town again and it is time to party out our weekends ! Hahaha. When I have finally figured out a choice, I will post again :D. Till then, tata and take care !
